The hip is a ball and socket joint that consist of the round femoral head sitting in the acetabulum of the pelvis. The socket is deepened by a rim of tissue called the labrum.
The knee is a hinge joint comprising articulations between the femur, tibia, and patella (knee cap). Ligaments in the knee such as the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL help to stabilize the knee in all planes of motion.
The shoulder is similar to the hip in that it is also a ball and socket joint. The humeral head comprises the ball and the glenoid, part of the shoulder blade, makes up the socket.
Hand and Elbow
Injuries to the hand and elbow are common in the athlete and in the workplace. They can range from bicep tendon tears during a work out to overuse injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
There exists extensive research showing the benefits of PRP injection for the treatment of tendinitis and sprains and potentially for symptomatic relief in arthritis.
