Hip Problems & Treatments
About the Hip
The hip is a ball and socket joint that consist of the round femoral head sitting in the acetabulum of the pelvis. The socket is deepened by a rim of tissue called the labrum. Cartilage coats the femoral head and the cup portion of the joint. Pain that emanates from the joint can be experienced in the groin, buttock, outside of the hip or all the way to the knee. Initial evaluation of hip pain is done with clinical examination and xrays. When soft tissue damage is suspected an MRI is ordered. Dr. Andrachuk, an Atlanta-based hip specialist, has extensive expertise in treating the full spectrum of hip disorders using conservative treatment as well as the latest arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques.
Common Conditions We Treat
Hip Fractures
The bone involved in a hip fracture is the femur or thigh bone. This bone attaches to the pelvic bone, through a ball and socket joint. The neck of the femur bone is a common spot for a hip fracture to occur. This is known as a femoral neck fracture.
Avascular Necrosis
Also referred to as bone infarction or osteonecrosis, avascular necrosis is the death of bone tissue. It happens when someone experiences a loss of blood to the area of the body. Without treatment avascular necrosis may cause the bone to collapse.
Synovitis
A medical term used to describe inflammation of the synovial membrane; synovitis is found in the joints. The synovial membrane lines the joints. Synovitis is often associated with rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, and other conditions. It can also be found in joints affected by osteoarthritis
Trochanteric Bursitis
Trochanteric bursitis is inflammation found in the bursa of your hip. The bursa is a fluid-filled sac found near the joint in the area of the hip known as the greater trochanter. If the bursa becomes inflamed or irritated, it will likely cause hip pain.
